With the kind of agro climatic conditions prevailing in the district, it is very conducive in growing various horticultural crops. However, the present scenario of production is very low due to non adoption of improved technologies and non availability of improved varieties coupled with marketing network. The crop of concern are fruits, vegetables, tuber crops, floriculture, spice crops, plantation crops, mushroom, betel vines  etc.

Horticulture potential of the district

The district being endowed with favourable agro-climatic and geographical conditions ranging from sub-topical to temperate climate with high organic content in soil it offers an excellent condition for many fruits and vegetables and has great scope and potentialities of expanding the area of cultivation. Apart from fruits and vegetables the district has also potentiality in cultivating wide variety of flowers and also plantation crops like rubber, tea, coconut, arecanut etc. If viable agro-horticulture based industries as well as marketing are provided, the production of horticultural crops will certainly accelerate steeply and improve the economy of the district.
